about me

Hey there—I’m Mike Krieger and I do User Experience Design at Meebo, a startup in Mountain View, CA. I just finished a Coterminal Master’s in the HCI Group at Stanford. I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and have also lived in Portugal, Florida, and Argentina. My undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Symbolic Systems, an interdisciplinary program at Stanford that unites Computer Science, Psychology, Philosophy, and Cognitive Science. My research work focused on masses of online users and online crowds: how they can participate in early stages of the design process, through artifacts such as storyboards, and how we can improve their online lives through design.

I’m also passionate about entrepreneurship — I was a Mayfield Fellow this past year — and always love talking start-ups and innovation. When I’m not doing research, I’m a design geek (and a layout editor for Ambidextrous Magazine), an avid guitarist and incurable music fan. I also love hiking and travelling and am always looking for new hikes in the Bay Area and beyond.

In the summer of 2007, I worked at Foxmarks, a San Francisco start-up that builds on the wisdom of crowds to find the best content on the Web. As a Product Development Intern, I worked on User Interface Design and implementation. During the summer of 2006, I worked at Microsoft’s Mountain View campus on Microsoft Office 2007 as a Program Manager. I was on the PowerPoint/OfficeArt team, and (along with the very talented engineers on the team) worked on usability/accessibility features for visually impaired users, revamped the Photo Album generator feature, and managed the end-of-release process for the Outline pane.
